GEOLOGY 115 FIELD LAB

Enroll in Geol 115 Physical Geology Field Lab next Semester!  This class is transferable and it  fulfills your lab requirement for an  AA  degree from Cypress College.  

If you have already had a lab class at Cypress but still want to join us on this wonderful geological adventure, enroll in PHSC 299 C Physical Science Independent Study and obtain 1 unit.  This class can also be taken for no credit.

SPRING SEMESTER 2007
GEOLOGY 115

Trip Destinations:

  • Mojave Desert: March 2-4; We will be staying at the ZZYZX Desert Research Center for 2 nights. We will be visiting the Cima Volcanic Field and the famous Kelso Sand Dunes. We will study desert features, earthquake faults, sand dunes and volcanic features.

  • Salton Sea: April 20-22; We will be explore and camp 2 nights in Joshua Tree National Park.  We will be visiting the San Andreas Fault, the famous bubbling mudpots and the beautiful badland topography of the Anza-Borrego Desert.

Food, lodging, camping fees and transportation for both trips are included for an estimated fee of $130.

*An organizational meeting for this class will be held on Thursday Feb. 1 at 5 pm in SEM-123.

SUMMER 2007
GEOLOGY 115 FIELD LAB

   THE GRAND CANYON, BRYCE and ZION  NATIONAL PARKS!!!          

May 29 through June 3, 2007

May 29: We will leave Cypress College at 7:00 am and visit the Grand Canyon Caverns en route to Flagstaff for an overnight stay.
May 30:
Walnut Canyon Indian Cliff Dwellings, Sunset Crater and Franciscan Volcanoes.  Camp 2nd night at the Grand Canyon.
May 31: Rim hike at the Grand Canyon. Camp 3rd night at the Grand Canyon.
June 1:  Lake, Powell, Glen Canyon Dam, Dinosaur Footprints, Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument, and sunset walk at Bryce Canyon. Camp 4th night at Ruby's Campound near Bryce Canyon.
June 2: Visit Zion National Park. Camp 5th night at  Zion.
June 3: Return to Cypress College at approximately 7:00 pm.

Transporation, camping and park fees, are included for an estimated fee of $65.  Food is not included.  We  typically cook our meals at the campground (fun!) or eat at an inexpensive restaurant (i.e Burger King, McDonalds).
