The Geology Department offers the following earth science and
oceanography
courses for science and
non-science
majors. Refer to the Class Schedule for additional classes that may be
offered on a yearly or bi-yearly basis.
| GEOL
100 C PHYSICAL GEOLOGY 3 units |
This course is a survey of the
composition and structure of the earth, integrating the processes and
forces that operate underneath and upon the eath's surface. Course
includes topics such as earthquakes, volcanoes, earthquakes, glaciers,
fossils. UC/CSU, AA GE, CSU, GE, IGETC, CAN GEOL 6 |
| GEOL
101 C PHYSICAL GEOLOGY LABORATORY 1 unit |
This course includes the
identification of minerals and rocks; understanding of topographic
maps, aerial photographs and other imagery from remote sensing;
interpretation of rocks, structures, and geologic processes as revealed
on maps, air photos, and satellite imagery and their relationships to
plate tectonics. (Not open to students with credit in GEOL 102 C.) UC/CSU, AA GE, CSU, GE, IGETC |
| GEOL
115 C PHYSICAL GEOLOGY LABORATORY 1 unit |
This course includes field and
laboratory study of mineral, rock, and fossil identification,
structural and geomorphic features; geologic history; and geologic
hazards of selected regions in Southern California. (Not open to
students with credit in GEOL 101 C of GEOL 102 C.) UC/CSU, AA GE, CSU, GE, IGETC |
| GEOL
130 C INTRODUCTION TO OCEANOGRAPHY 3 Units |
This course is survey of the
composition and structure of the earth's ocean showing the
interrelationship between atmosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere, and
biosphere. This effects of modern technology, ocean resources, and
marine pollution will be explored. UC/CSU, AA GE, CSU, GE, IGETC |
